Celebrities That Went Back to College

While going back to college can be difficult and time consuming, lots of people succeed at it. Advancing your career or changing career paths altogether are excellent reasons to go back to college. This list of celebrities that have gone back to college, often after working in their industry for years, is living proof that you can do it too!

Shakira – History of Civilization
Latin pop singer and Grammy Award Winner Shakira recently enrolled in a history of western civilization course at the University of California, Los Angeles. She reportedly wore a big backpack and hat, and even went by a different name so she would be less recognizable — that’s something not every college student struggles with.

Shaquille O’Neal – Business
O’Neal is a star both on the basketball court and in the classroom. The multiple award-winning NBA All-Star left school to pursue his athletic career, but promised his mother he would go back someday. In 2000 he graduated with his Bachelor’s in Business from Louisiana Sate University and in 2005 he earned his Master of Business Education from the University of Phoenix. O’Neal said he decided to go back to college after thinking about what he will do when he retires from basketball.

James Franco – English
Best known for his role in all three Spider-Man movies, actor James Franco went back to the University of California, Los Angeles to earn an honors degree in English in 2008. But he’s not stopping there. Franco is currently working toward his Master of Fine Arts in writing at Columbia University. Even Golden Globe winners earn degrees.

Michael Jordan – Geography
Michael Jordan left school to play basketball and became one of the most well-known players in the NBA. However, being an NBA champion, MVP, All-Star, and Slam Dunk Contest Winner multiple times wasn’t enough for Jordan. He went back to college at North Carolina-Chapel Hill and earned his degree in geography.

Steven Spielberg – Film
Everyone loves Jaws and E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial but few people realize the man behind these movie successes earned his degree at the age of 55. Spielberg went back to college to earn his Bachelor of Arts from Cal State University’s film school even after a successful and busy career and after being awarded five honorary doctorates. If Spielberg can benefit from going back to college, so can you.

Sandra Bullock – Drama
Actress Sandra Bullock, who starred in movies like While You Were Sleeping and The Blind Side and has won an Oscar and Golden Globe, among several other awards, left East Carolina University in favor of acting. However, she later returned and earned her bachelor’s degree.

Brian May – Physics
Brian May, lead guitarist for Queen graduated from London’s Imperial College with honors in physics and mathematics. Impressively, after being in the music industry for 30 years, May went back to college and earned his Ph.D. in physics. He wrote his thesis on Interplanetary Dust and was invited back to the school as a visiting researcher to study astronomy.

Question by Me: What’s a good ‘back to school’ haircut?
Hi, there. (= I’m a female, going into 9th grade. Besides being really nervous about high school, I want a new haircut to kick the year off. But..I have no idea what I want exactly. I know that, in general, I want a layered cut. Anywhere from medium length, to long.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3012/2766567226_7d0a147101.jpg

There’s a picture of me. I’m sorry that my face is so bright. I also -know- that I look bad in the picture. Don’t remind me, please. Anyway, I do not want any bobs or pixies. Also, please don’t suggest anything like a ‘mohawk’ or going bald. That’s rude. I’m really not into celebrity hairstyles. By this, I mean that, just because a celebrity has her hair cut some way…it doesn’t mean that I will. But if you think that I’ll like it, go ahead and suggest it. By the way, I’ve been thinking of getting a medium length shag, but I can’t find any good pictures of it. So, if you could show me one, I’d be thankful. Thanks everyone. I appreciate your help. icon biggrin Whats a good back to school haircut?
Oh, I forgot to add… low maintance is great! I don’t have a lot of time to mess with my hair in the morning, so if I can just do it in 5-10 minutes, that’d be great.

Clothes Off Our Back partners with Celebrities to Raise ,000 Donation for Children’s Charity in Malawi, Africa:HELP!

The Clothes Off Our Back Foundation is a 501c3 organization that hosts charity auctions showcasing today’s hottest celebrity attire. Items are put up for bid to the public with proceeds going to benefit children’s charities. Clothes Off Our Back was founded by actors and philanthropists Jane Kaczmarek (“Malcolm In The Middle,” “Raising the Bar”) and Bradley Whitford (“The West Wing,” “Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip”) whose efforts, along with their celebrity and designer friends have helped improve the lives of children across the globe.Proceeds were raised to benefit four charities, H.E.L.P. Malawi, Hope North, The Art of Elysium and Feeding America.  With the participation of over 500 celebrities and 200 designers, Clothes Off Our Back auctions have raised nearly million for various children’s charities.

As the fundraising year for the four chosen charities comes to an end, a new beginning branches out for both HELP and the upcoming chosen charities. Through the generosity of Celebrities and Supporters through the auctions, Clothes Off Out Back was able to give an amazing donation of ,000 to HELP.  With this generous donation, HELP can now fuel some of the projects that have been awaiting funds to move forward.  With so much planned for the growth of the Nanthomba School and Nandumbo Health Center, every donation is greatly appreciated and welcomed.  HELP is dedicated to giving the children in Malawi, Hope, Education, Love and Protection; with organizations such as Clothes Off Our Back and the help of individual support…the organization will truly be able to make the children’s aspirations and dreams become a reality.

This donation will specifically allow for the construction to begin on the following projects:

1. Nanthomba School Administration Building. It is important for this phase of the school to be complete. The administration building will create a place where the Head Master, teachers and staff of Nanthomba Primary School will be able to store/organize school records, discuss school: budgets, curriculum and  policies.

2. Library. This building will provide supplement educational resources and a quiet place to study.  Currently, there are no libraries or educational centers within a four hour radius of the Nanthomba Primary School.

3. Gift Shop. HELP has developed a job development program where children learn how to use their skills to create income for themselves and their families.  Many after school programs such as creating magazine bead necklaces/wrap bracelets, making jam and peanut butter, tinsmithing, and various other projects have been developed, so that the children are able to use what they have learned to generate funding for their school.  This program is designed to not only empower the students, but give them the tools to succeed in the future. Everything the children make during these after school programs will be sold at the school gift shop, where 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Nanthomba Primary School.  A HUGE thank you to Michel and Jane from Clothes Off Our Back and their team for giving us the opportunity to work with their wonderful organization over the past year.

From all of us at HELP, and the children in Malawi…we thank everyone involved with raising funds through Clothes Off Our Back, without your support we would not be able to do what we do. Together, we can make a difference!

Question by яαιηвσω: I’ve been dying my naturally blonde hair black for several months, how would I go about going back to blonde?
How damaged would it be if I went back to my natural color? My blonde was about like this. http://www.latest-hairstyles.com/images/celebrities/jessica-simpson-hairstyle.jpg It’s not that I don’t like the black, it’s just expensive to maintain. I can’t find a boxed dye that doesn’t make my roots look blue, so I’ve been forced to go to salons. Would that be insanely expensive? Thanks for your help!

Answer by amanda
i did the same thing. had light blonde hair and went to black and it took me a year to get back.
this is because i refused to bleach my hair because then all my natural hair color underneath the dye would be gone. i just kept dying it lighter and lighter every month. finally in may i got it pretty blonde and then the sun naturally lightened my hair over the summer. good luck, it might take a while.
