Celebrity Gossip and celebrity scandal are everywhere. When it comes to stars and celebrities we love to talk about them. Not many people can resist a good old gossip preferable about someone that is known. Celebrity gossip and news can be found in magazines, on the radio, and on the television screen.

Celebrity Gossip is a great way to take a break from the more serious news that is found both locally and around the world. As a society we like to follow the actions of those celebrities we see in media. We talk about them. After all, do you really want to miss out seeing the next outrageous outfit that Paris Hilton is going to wear?

Do you feel a twinge of guilt about buying a gossipy celebrity magazine? Don’t. Tell yourself instead that you are merely honoring a respectable ancestral survival mechanism by engaging in celebrity gossip. This reveals lots about our culture. Celebrity gossip helps us tackle our social anxieties (what if we started breaking the rules like some Celebrity) and celebrity gossip tells us something about our dreams (only if I were to be rich and careless like Angelina).

Celebrity Gossip and our past.

Humans as a species live in groups, so it is essential for individuals to learn what other members of the tribe are up to and what this means. In our modern world with its instant communications celebrities make up part of that group. We feel we know them even if we have not even met them in real life. This drives us to engage in gossip about the celebrities. This begs the question :

Did celebrity gossip just start recently or has celebrity gossip been around for a long time?

Long ago reputations were important, we are talking, middle ages here, even more so than they are today. Women needed their husband to uphold their reputation – if a woman felt she was losing their husband, she would vocally accuse her competitor of trying to take him away by calling her a whore. You could even be punished for gossiping!

The punishment was various – but included a scold’s bridle, a metal band that fitted over the head and had a 3.5 inch protrusion which was inserted in the mouth and lay flat against the tongue. One sure way of making sure they did no more scolding.

Going back further. “If primate intelligence originally evolved to solve complex social problems, such as keeping track of shifting coalitions or countering against deception, then it’s possible that present-day human intelligence carries a legacy of this history”. So it seems that even in history mankind has been engaging in different forms of celebrity gossip.

Celebrity Gossip Today.

As we get to the point where we have less and less friends in common, the only way we can engage relationships and communication is to try to find people who are known to both of us – celebrities, public figures, sports stars, and media figures of all kinds. This allows us to gossip about a common theme – the well known celebrity. Now that communities include virtual ones, we engage in virtual celebrity gossip by e-mail, text or Internet. Most of the time this is for pure entertainment and the forming of social bonds. This need-to-know what happed to so and so could explain the enduring popularity of soap operas and other gossipy media. This human need for celebrity gossip was shown in Scotland in a recent human group experiment.

An interesting discovery about Celebrity Gossip

Scottish Psychologists devised a mind test similar to the game known as “Chinese whispers”,

They gave 10 volunteers four different texts to read, and then asked them to write down what they could remember. Their efforts were then passed to another set of volunteers as passages for them to learn, and the process was repeated four times.

The final version of the texts were then compared against the original – and the psychologists found that “celebrity gossip-like” information, involving deception and infidelity and the interactions of other people, was most easily remembered and relayed with the most accuracy.

However, the volunteers were hardly able to recall purely descriptive information about individuals or their surroundings. These results suggest that humans attach a high importance to personal and social data. Just the type of data we find when we engage in celebrity gossip. Could this information be used in the future to educate our children? Who knows but finding out about other people’s private lives and interactions is a key for human survival. We must also remember that celebrity gossip does have a serious side to it.

Celebrity Gossip and work

It’s all to do with being a human being. You simply will not survive unless you can gossip about the people you know, for a lot of us that means celebrities. We just love to exchange information about them and find out more about them. This need also comes to the fore at work.

In any organization, you’ve got a boss that’s one person you need to know about – their idiosyncrasies, their peculiarities and their relationships. As a result most office gossip is focused upwards – it’s looking up the hierarchy. This is another reason why we gossip about celebrities so much as they appear to be above us in the human hierarchy.

Celebrity Gossip and Public Relations

Some businesses use this information to great effect. In the Public Relations business it’s important to control the flow of information and when that information is released to the public. Public Relations companies need to know when and where to show the public important information about their clients who are incidentally often celebrities that they may be representing. What would happen if we stopped gossiping about people? Just imagine if all celebrity gossip, were to stop tomorrow, what would we talk about? Who would we talk about?

Without celebrities or people we see as above us it would be an imperfect world – the most obvious reason is that about 80% of talk that occurs now, simply wouldn’t happen. That’s about how much of our conversation is celebrity gossip. Imagine no celebrities to gossip about! Society would break down, because the information we get from other people is fundamental to managing our relationships with them. We need to know who the friends, fools and the scoundrels are.

So to sum up we need to talk and to talk means to gossip. Celebrity gossip is a great way to take a break from the more serious news that is found around us. As a society we like to engage in celebrity gossip and follow the actions of those celebrities we see in the media light. It helps us bond. Celebrity gossip is here to stay. Just imagine seeing the next outrageous outfit that Paris Hilton is going to wear on the front of a magazine! Would you ignore it? Or talk about it?

Patrick Swayze 1952- 2009

It’s been confirmed that Patrick Swayze passed away at his home in Los Angeles last night following a 2-year battle with pancreatic cancer.  Tributes for the Dirty Dancing star have been flooding in since the news broke and during last nights Toronto Film Festival Patrick’s friend and co-star Rob Lowe said:

“Patrick lived a thousand lifetimes in one lifetime. He was an expert dancer, he wrote hit songs, he starred in hit movies, he was an amazing horseman. But the thing I will remember him most for was his amazing love affair with his wife Lisa.”

DJ Adam Goldstein Dies Of An Overdose…

DJ AM (real name Adam Goldstein), who once famously dated Nicole Richie, was found dead in his apartment yesterday after a reported overdose.
According to police sources the DJ was found dead “face down” in his NY home surrounded by a crack pipe and prescription pills.
Sources say that Adam had been devastated over a break-up with girlfriend Hayley Wood shortly before his death. Apparently she called off their relationship within the last week.
The tragedy comes just a year after Adam miraculously survived a plane crash last year that killed four people and seriously injured Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker.
Celebrities have reacted with shock about the DJ’s death. On Twitter yesterday, Lindsay Lohan wrote
“I can’t believe this.. i’m in shock. why? why? r.i.p. adam.”
Meanwhile Kelly Osbourne told her followers:
“I just cant believe that adam (dj.am) is gone i dont want to believe it im in shock. he was one of the most genuine people i have ever met!”

Noel Gallagher Says He Quit Oasis After “Violent Intimidation”

As you’ve probably already heard: Oasis are over. After 18-years together, Noel Gallagher walked out on the band on Friday after he had a massive row with his brother Liam.
But now in a message to the band’s fans Noel has claimed that he decided to quit because of constant “verbal and violent intimidation”.
On the band’s website on Saturday Noel wrote:
“The level of verbal and violent intimidation towards me, my family, friends and comrades has become intolerable.”
Although Noel offers no details about what the intimidation was, or who was responsible for said “violent” intimidation.

Police Report Reveals Shocking Details Of Chris Brown’s Assault On Rihanna…

While Chris Brown was in court in Los Angeles yesterday to face sentencing for his assault on Rihanna, we spotted the Umbrella singer out and about in New York.
Meanwhile, now that the case is finally closed police reports on the incident have been released and they don’t paint a pretty picture.
In a statement officers described a call from a “screaming woman,” who was “very upset and crying”.
Rihanna confirmed that she had, had an argument with Chris earlier that evening and it continued as they made their way home in Brown’s car, but things really turned nasty when Rihanna “became enraged and slammed both of her fists against the dashboard.”
This is when Brown pulled the car over, tried to push Rihanna out and started punching her. He then continue to drive with his left hand while he hit her with his right and he only stopped when Rihanna checked her face in the mirror to see if it was swollen.
Chris then told his girlfriend, “I’m going to beat the s%$* out of you when we get home. You wait and see.”
The report claims Rihanna then made a call to her personal assistant, which only enraged Brown further and he said, “You just did the stupidest thing ever! Now I’m really going to kill you!”
More punches were thrown and as Rihanna tried to flee Chris put her in a headlock, bit her left ear, and put so much pressure on her throat that she nearly passed out.
The attack finally came to an end when Rihanna tried to break the car window with her shoe.
Now we know you’ve probably heard most of this before as rumours have been circulating for sometime now about what happened that fateful night, but there’s something about hearing the cold hard facts from the police report that make it that bit more chilling.

C4 Have Axed Big Brother

Even the most diehard Big Brother fans can’t have failed to notice that this years show has been a bit of a bore so you wont be surprised to hear that C4 have finally decided to axe the tired format. The Sun reports that a show insider revealed:
“The reality is people are BORED with it. Even at Channel 4 the vibe among staff is that if you like Big Brother you’re not cool. If the people commissioning the show don’t think it’s cool, what hope is there?”
It’s been suggested that an official announcement will be made by the end of the week and Channel 4 will confirm that after just one more series, which they are contractually obliged to make after signing an £180million deal with Endemol, Big Brother will be no more

Michael Jackson’s Death Was Homicide…

Ever since Michael Jackson’s untimely death on 25th June rumours have been circulating that Dr Conrad Murray may have been to blame for the tragic singer’s demise.
Yesterday the Los Angeles County coroner confirmed that the King of Pop’s death was in fact homicide and it is now increasingly likely that criminal charges will be filed against Murray.
The Sun has revealed that Jackson “was killed by lethal levels of the powerful anaesthetic Propofol” and Dr Murray confirmed he had been treating the singer for insomnia for six weeks leading up to his death.

Celebrity Gossip – Prognosis Is “not Great” for Rocker Bret Michaels

It’s said that Rocker Bret Michaels is still fighting for his life.

He’s in “big, big trouble, and the prognosis is not great,” Donald Trump told TMZ.com Monday. “He turns out to be an amazing competitor, and ultimately that is the thing that could save his life.”

The former Poison singer and standout competitor on this season’s edition of Trump’s “Celebrity Apprentice” reality show, was rushed to the hospital Thursday night with an excruciating headache that turned out to be massive brain hemorrhage, his reps confirmed.

The 47-year-old remains in intensive care under 24-hour observation and will undergo further testing to locate the source of the bleeding, his tour manager wrote in the latest posting on his website BretMichaels.com.

“Please remember Bret is, and always has been, a fighter and survivor and is under the best medical care possible,” manager Janna Elias wrote.

On Sunday, Elias posted news that Michaels was suffering from slurred speech, blurred vision and dizziness but the hope was that he’d make a full recovery.

She later deleted the description of his symptoms but promised an update from doctors soon. Reps have not revealed where the rocker is being treated.

Dad Wally Sychak told the Daily News Friday that his son had stabilized but wasn’t out of the woods.

“I’m certainly worried,” Sychak said. “It’s not a minor thing.”

Michaels appeared in a taped episode of “Celebrity Apprentice” on NBC Sunday night, and the show paid tribute to the ailing singer with a slow-motion video and voiceover that saying, “Everyone here at NBC wishes Bret Michaels a speedy recovery.”

In my opinion, Michaels is such a vibrant performer! It’s an unhappy news to know his condition as now. I’m praying for his survival. Godspeed Bret!
