Celebrity Trends For Baby Names

Celebrities really do set all of the trends in the world. Often they’re the first to get the latest fashions, electronics, cars, etc. They are also responsible for a movement toward crushing conventions where baby names are concerned. It seems there is a competition amongst celebs to come up with the most unique and sometimes controversial names possible — and it’s a trend that is spilling over into the world of average people living everyday lives.

Miley Cyrus is not very likely to be a name that seems strange to most people, due to her and her dad Billy Cyrus’ success. Back in the early 90′s when Miley was born, headlines were filled with comments  like “What were they thinking?.” Enter 2007 and onward and not only is “Miley” a popular choice, but other baby names such as Paisley, Marley, Carly and basically anything that ends with an “E” sound is the in thing to name your baby since Miley’s name gained fame.

Another popular celebrity trend toward baby names revolves around the letter “L”. Mel Gibson and wife named their baby Lucia. Seal and his wife Heidi Klum gave their daughter the name “Lou” — typically reserved for boys rather than girls. Other celebrity baby names include: Luciana, Lucille, Leila and Lyla, to name a few. Names starting with an “L” is the in thing to do.

Changing Traditions

Celebrities giving their children less than conventional names may actually bring about a positive change for everyone. As mentioned above: Celebrities set the trends for everyone else to follow. Money and fame allows them to break the mold of traditional names and allow names with strange and unusual twists to become more commonplace and acceptable.
